Categories (Static Content Categories and Menus)

Static content categories serve different purposes.

The Static Content Categories administration page can be accessed from the admin sidebar under Static Content → Categories.

Sellvio includes four distinct static content categories. Since all four categories play unique roles in the system, they cannot be removed. Let’s explore these categories and the roles they fulfill:

  • System Messages – Static content assigned to this category can be used as the content of automated email messages sent by the system when an order’s status changes. In the documentation under Settings → General Settings, we discussed how static content from the "System Messages" category can be assigned to order statuses.
  • Information – Static content placed in this category will appear under the Information navigation menu in the footer.
  • Customer Service – Static content placed in this category will appear under the Customer Service navigation menu in the footer.
  • Menu – Static content placed in this category will appear in the header navigation. Subcategories created under the "Menu" category will transform into subordinate navigation menus.

Administrators can create additional custom static categories at any time without limitations.

Similar to event categories, static categories are language-dependent, meaning they can be created separately for each language supported by the web store.

To view the list of static categories for a specific language, select the desired language from the Languages menu in the left sidebar. The selected language will also apply when creating a new static category.

2. Name – The name of the static category.
3. Visible – Indicates whether the category is active or inactive. Inactive categories are not visible to the store’s customers.
4. Categories can be manually arranged by clicking on and dragging the "arrows" icon. 5. Subcategories can only be arranged within their parent level.
5. Clicking the "Edit" button allows store owners to modify existing categories.
6. If a category is no longer needed, store owners can delete it by clicking the "Trash" button.
7. New static categories can be created at any time by clicking the "Add New" button.

Adding or Editing Static Categories

Creating new static categories in Sellvio is a straightforward process requiring just a few simple steps:

General Tab

Categories (Static Content Categories and Menus)

  • Name – The name serves a dual purpose, as it is used both on the administrative interface and as displayed to the store’s customers.
  • Parent Category – Specifies the parent category of a subcategory. To create a new top-level category, leave this field empty.
  • Language – Categories can be created for every active language in the web store. The language will automatically be set to the one selected on the listing page before clicking the "Add New" button.
  • Active – Determines whether the category is visible to the store’s customers.

Once all required fields (marked with an asterisk) are completed, click "Save" or "Save & Stay" to save the static category.

Translations Tab

Static categories are created individually for each language. Administrators can link categories on the Translations tab and specify which category is the translation of another.

This ensures that when customers are in a category and change the store’s language, instead of being redirected to the homepage, they are redirected to the linked category in the newly selected language.

To assign a translation to the edited static category, click on one of the automatically populated language fields and start typing. Once the results appear, click on the static category you wish to assign.

To unlink static categories (remove a translation for a language), simply click the small "X" button at the end of the autocomplete field.

Always remember to click "Save" or "Save & Stay" after making changes to a category.

SEO Tab

Sellvio provides settings for in-depth SEO optimization for each content type and category. A comprehensive explanation of the various SEO settings and their usage can be found [here].

Sharing Tab

Under the dedicated Sharing tab, store owners can configure Open Graph (OG) settings for the static category in the selected language.

Categories (Static Content Categories and Menus)

  • OG Title – The title of the page that appears when the page is shared. It helps control how the page title appears on social platforms, making it more user-friendly and appealing to an online audience.
  • OG Description – The description of the category that appears when the page is shared.
  • OG Image – The image displayed alongside the OG title and OG description when content is shared on social media. This image can only be configured for the store's primary language. When a gallery is shared on social media, the same image will be used for all languages.
